Character Spotlight: Lloyd

I used to be trouble, but then I met you guys. You took me in. You showed me the importance of being brave, and the importance of being strong. Most importantly, you showed me the importance of being good. When this battle first began, when the First Spinjitzu Master fought the Overlord, and his back was against the wall, and he knew it was all over, did he quit? No. He found a way to keep the fight going. He passed his elemental powers to us. Out of all people, a bunch of kids. But there must have been a reason he chose us. I’d like to think it’s because knew we’d never back down, never give up. We’ve learned the ancient ways of the ninja, and ninja never quit.

Author Moments

Lloyd is in tie with my other favorite ninja, Zane. With the way Lloyd has dealt with everything in life, and how he’s influenced others, it’s just another reason why he’s up there. Sure, things may seem to be about Lloyd in Ninjago for so many episodes, but it’s fact of how much he’s changed everyone around him.

Character Development

When we first see Lloyd, he’s a cute, candy-loving, little boy and his melodramatic laugh. Wanting so much to be like his father, he tries to unleash all the Serpentine, but that backfires when Pythor betrays him and Wu has to rescue him. Once in the forces of good, Lloyd turns out not to be such a bad apple.

Everything changes when Lloyd becomes good. He finds out he’s the Green Ninja, and he has to defeat his father. That doesn’t change his mind as he trains to fulfill his destiny. Along the way, he becomes older. Lloyd changes. He’s no longer the candy-loving, video gaming addict. His entire mental set is changed. He’s focused to do what fate tells him, even if it means he has to defeat his beloved father He begins more mature, more serious. He even becomes arrogant of his abilities although he learns quickly that they are still growing.

As the seasons past, Lloyd grows into the mental set of his physical self and begins to take on leadership of the ninja. I mean, who would be better for the job? He has faced the most hardship and lost out of all, all because of his destiny. He loses his father, although he never completely believes it, and starts to train to become a sensei.

Moments

Lloyd has had so many special parts in Ninjago, but here are a few.

  • When Lloyd first appeared. We can all remember Lloyd, clad in his black clothes, carrying a cart of candy and refusing to eat vegetables.
  • When Lloyd got hit by the Tomorrow Tea, we see him change so much from this point on.
  • When Lloyd was fighting the Overlord, what the episodes had built to this moment, despite him failing the first time.
  • When Lloyd was reading the spell to send the Anacondrai back to the Cursed Realm, despite the fact he was sending his father to his death.
  • When Lloyd faced Morro at the end of Possession, and we saw him reunite with his father. Shortly after, he took his father’s robes to follow in his steps.
